SINCE 1993

A Buddhist Meditation Centrein Pokhara

Ganden Yiga Chozin Meditation Center was founded in 1993 to offer a peaceful place for the study and practice of Tibetan Buddhist teachings. The name Ganden Yiga Chozin means “Pure Land of Maitreya Buddha,” referring to Maitreya, the future buddha associated with compassion and wisdom. The center is a branch of Kopan Monastery in Kathmandu and part of the worldwide FPMT organization.

Located along the shores of Phewa Lake in Lakeside, Pokhara, the center welcomes visitors from around the world seeking peace and clarity. It offers courses in Tibetan Buddhist philosophy, guided meditation, and yoga, helping practitioners develop mindfulness, compassion, and balance in everyday life.

The quality of everything we do — our physical actions, our verbal actions, and even our mental actions — depends on our motivation. That's why it's important for us to examine our motivation in our day to day life. If we cultivate respect for others and our motivation is sincere, if we develop a genuine concern for others' well-being, then all our actions will be positive.

— His Holiness the Dalai Lama

What we offer

Three pillars of practice

Each program at the centre is rooted in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition and designed to support a happier, more balanced life — regardless of your background or belief.

Tibetan Buddhist Philosophy

Courses and teachings on Mahayana Buddhism — developing the mind through compassion, wisdom, and an understanding of why things arise. Drawing on the Gelugpa lineage of Kopan Monastery and the FPMT.

Meditation Practice

Daily guided meditation sessions to relax and focus the mind. From tranquillity comes clarity, understanding, and greater concentration. Suitable for complete beginners through to experienced practitioners.

Yoga & Movement

Morning Hatha yoga to balance and harmonize body and mind. Taught by Mr. Gyanam, with nearly 15 years of experience guiding students at the centre. A natural complement to seated practice.
